Mom's Day- which is better?

Should I go ahead and spend extra to have flowers delivered on Mother's Day, or wait and buy a nice gift and give it to her later when we see her, either the following week or the week after?

I invited her to brunch- no. I invited her to a play- no. I invited her to visit (no answer) and I said we'd visit in 2 weeks.

So... flowers or wait?

I would send her flowers, because then she won't be sitting there on mother's day feeling unloved. Even if you gave her a gift later, it wouldn't be the same as having something right on the day.

I need a good gift for my bf for valentines. I was thinking an Edible Arrangement delivered (hes at school. im home) or maybe even a bouquet of balloons. Would that be stupid for a guy to get? I dont want to do the whole picture frame thing etc...Hes getting flowers delivered most likely, so i need something to match that. We're only 19, so nothing rediculous! haha Any suggestions as to what i can possibly buy him would be AWESOME. he's not into sports!

My gfs birthday is this saturday. Im at college at few hours away so she doesnt think ill be around this weekend.. I was going to drive home friday. Should I show up and surprise her saturday morning with flowers as shes waking up. Or should I show up and surprise her friday night spend the night with her and have the flowers delivered to her that saturday morning?

my boyfriend of 7 months broke up w. me because he couldn't take our busy schedules anymore...i work all day %26amp; go to school at night %26amp; he works on the weekends. after 2 weeks he calls me %26amp; tells me that he misses me %26amp; loves me %26amp; that he made a huge mistake by letting me go. this didnt phase me %26amp; i told him that saying it would not make me believe it anymore because i believed him when he said that he didnt want to be with me. i told him that he needed to prove to me that he wanted me back. i got home from work last night %26amp; there were flowers delivered to my house that said "i love you so much %26amp; i am ready and willing to prove this to you now. i love you endlessly -ben". i thought it was sweet but i knew that i needed more than just a sorry and flowers for my heart to settle. he asked me to take work off tomorrow because he has some suprises for me. i love him but i want to be positive he loves me.

No, I don't think he truly knows he wants to be with you. From the looks of it you are almost 20 and he is probably about the same age. I think you have a lot of looking and maturing to do before you find someone that is mature enough for you. Also, think about this: After a break-up it is very typical for the pair to miss each other, that is human nature, and it is o.k. But what has changed in your lives that will make the relationship work now when it didn't before? Do you still work all day and go to school at night? Does he still work on the weekends? If all of this is the same, then taking him back will bring you right back into the same situation after the good-feelings you get from being back together settle down. It is o.k. to not cling to anyone too tightly until you get married! Just move on, no hard feelings.

They were together for about two years and even applied to the same university just to be together; suddenly he broke up with her....he probably felt 'tired' of the relationship....a few days later, he called me for advice and kept calling to talk with me.(They moved 2 a different country for uni so u can imagine how much he was spending on phone bills)....neway, he called saying he regreted breaking up with her, he missed her, he couln't eat or sleep...etc. i then adviced him to tell her how he felt (i would have told her about his calls and all but i did not want to get directly involved or betray his confidence)...so about 2 weeks after their breakup, he planned a surprise dinner in a fancy place to appologise and ask her to be his girl - again. she said no. now i know my girl and i know she was still madly in love with him, but like you, she wasn't positive and she believed him when he said he did not want to be with her anymore. She ended up getting hurt because she lost him and she did not save the relationship when she had the chance.

Think about it. if u're not 'positive' but u're still in love with him, why not take a chance and follow your heart?....it's better trying and taking the risk now than wondering what would have been.

Should Valentine's Day be moved to the weekend?

With people, most especially men, are working more hours than ever to make ends meet, they are simply too tired to plan anything special on a week night. According to the Census Bureau, men put in 45-48 hours a week, compared to an average 35 hours a week for women. Since Valentine’s Day is primarily a day where men are expected to put out that little extra for the love in their lives, it would be much easier for them to do so on Saturday. In this way, they will be rested up and better prepared for the day. Instead of paying the extra cost of having flowers delivered, they can deliver it, and all the other expected gifts, themselves.

As a cab driver, I’ve noted from the decreasing number of people who are getting out doing anything when Valentine’s Day is on a work night. A Saturday would work so much better. So, what do you think?

The 14th of February falls on a different day depending on the year. It changes every year.

Next year (2009) the 14th falls on a Friday.

In (2010)it falls on a Sunday.

I know a lot of couples who do not necessarily go out on this date (they exchange gifts). They wait until the weekend to go out to dinner or have a "special date".

It's a TRADITION having it on the 14th. It would kind of be like moving Halloween to a weekend because the 31st is often during the week.

Wednesday works well. It allows couples to spread the thoughts over two weekends.

If a couple has a hard time agreeing on which day to celebrate their affections for each other, then there quite likely more important problems are boiling below the surface. In an ideal relationship one should be able to express their love no matter how tired or short on time they may have.
Reply:Personally I'd to change Dec 25th Christmas to Friday or Sat. I'd also like to do the same for New Years Eve.

It's really hard to have activities on Christmas all day and then have to go to work in the morning.

Also, Halloween should be on Friday or Sat. Kids could then stay out all night and not have to worry about having to go to school in the morning.

These are all holidays on certain days and that is not going to change.

we dating for about 10 months. We were fighting cus we both have alot of stress in our lives...and because of the 18 yrs age diff we both decided to go our separate ways. we work together, and we have been talking at work. He comes by my desk to ask me how my day is going and vice versa. I had flowers delivered to my desk from my best friend and he even asked who the flowers were from. I am DYING to email him and tell him I miss him , but i'm afraid of rejection and how I would feel if he told me he doesnt want me back. I think it speaks volumes that we are still talking and smiling at eachother at work...I dont know how to read this.... I'm heart broken...dont know whether to let it go or not.

My best advice is to talk to him. Yes you are setting yourself up for potential rejection but there is also the potential to get the one you care about back. You'll never know unless you speak up. It would be worse going on not knowing then knowing the truth whatever it may be. You never know, he may be feeling the same way, and is scared to talk to you....

I had flowers delivered to my wifes work. I bought (4) cards to give my wife. (1) from our (3) kids and (3) from me. She leaves for work @ 4am so I placed one by her purse after she went to sleep so she would get it in the morning. I placed a card that plays music in her car so she would see it on the way to work. She called me a few time during the day and treated me like a jerk on the phone even though I did not do anything to her. The last phone she bitched at me for buying her flowers. At this point I hung up on her. The kids gave her their card after I got home from work. And I was no longer in the romantic Valentines Day mode to give her the third. I also made a slide show of pictures of us together over the years accompanied by our wedding song. I received thanks for the first card and that was it. I did not realize my wife had become such a heartless *****!

my guess is that she's angry about something else and taking it out on you. Ask her what's wrong. Let her know your feelings were hurt but AFTER you find out what's eating her.

Reply:Usually when a person blows up over something that isn't really rational then they are stressed and still upset about something else that remains unresolved and is causing them duress. Are you having financial issues? Maybe she thought it was a waste of money. Really do some searching and thinking to try and determine what she was actually angry over. No matter the reason for her blow up, she should have handled it differently. Maybe you can tell her how much it upset you. I hope that you all can figure out a way to talk nicely to each other. It's important not only for the health of your relationship, but also for your children's health. They deserve to see a more loving example. Good luck, I hope she works things out nicely.

Sounds like your wife reacted the way a woman reacts to a man who sees v-day as one day of atonement for 364 of neglect. Especially if money is tight.

Are you doing your share of housework and childcare? Do you put the toilet seat down? Treat her with respect? Satisfy her physical needs even when you're not in a romantic mood?

If everything truly is in order, then she's stressed about something big and if you're a loving husband you'll try to give her the safe space she needs to open up about it.
Reply:WOW... I would have been amazed at the one card.... let alone three AND flowers?! She needs a wake up call.... My husband didn't get me anything, but there isn't a complaint there... I came home to a clean house, rearranged office and living room and he got off the computer, enjoyed a movie with me after the kids went to bed and then well... the rest was our marital fun....

Everyday should be Valentine's day...its not necessary to buy roses, jewelry and whatever else material things that is used as a symbol of an affection. ppl say love can't be bought...well believe that thousands of peole , especially men buy rose or a box of cnady for their (suppos) sweethearts only to keep them quiet. I just saw an executive(probably president or vp) of a company rush out of the CVS store with a bunch or roses, I mean someone like him, we'd expect him to go to a flower boutique store or have the flowers delivered. V does spread some love...but a lot of hostility, envy, and depresstion. bc not all pple have the funds to buy nice gifts or they'll buy an expensive jewelry just to keep up with the jones next door. I'm not tryin to sound like a scrooge but i just like an old fashion love.....

So what is your question. You don't care for Valentines day, got it. However, there are hundreds if not thousands of men and women who are not told I Love you every day by their partners. So one day a year to be showered with love and attention isn't such a bad thing. Some men and women for that matter forget their anniversary's but it is hard to forget Valentines day with Red/Pink everywhere. Leave the day alone it is harmless. Besides I like my home made valentines from my boys. They are as special to me as the butterflys they make for me at school.

Reply:I would say that is true for the most part. What is V day really for? We should be show our love to our spouse, kids pretty much everyday. What if we actually DID this ona regular basis instead of using V day once a year to do it? I think people's lives would be more happy and content.

I think it was Saint Valentine who started this holiday, although I'm not sure what he did exactly to get it started. Maybe it was in truly in the name of love and just turned into a holiday I suppose.

I have a really good male friend of four years. And he lives in Ohio and Im in Georgia. I recently went and saw him for a week. lets say it is now going to another level. And i would do anything to be with him.. He kinda got mad at me for something silly. But I was kinda thinking about getting a thing of flowers delivered to him "just because" something like that...does a man like getting flowers or would he think that was gay..what would be other suggestions he is kinda far away to do anything else any suggestions

Well.. Flowers are for some guys.. but my hubby doesn't particularly like them.. (just his way I guess)

But he does love junkfood...a surprise pizza delivery for lunch...

If you want to send flowers, there is a really neat chain called Candy Bouquet.. they can make the candies look like a vase of flowers.. but they are edible..

Now THAT my hubby WOULD like.. even if he doesn't particularly like flowers.
Reply:if you know the guy well enough, i think you know the answer to your question. it's not so much about liking the flowers (and i LOVE 'em!) but about knowing that someone cared, someone was thinking of me, someone loves me (or likes you a lot) and wanted me to know it. STILL smiling days later!

when you are so far away, i realize there is only so much that you can do: it can be kind of paralyzing. no, be assured that the flowers will be a wonderful gesture.

if you absolutely absolutely DON'T want to go the floral route, you could also try... free movie passes with the stipulation that they're for the next time you visit, a gift card from a local restaurant or store, certainly candy, a cd or book you two might have talked about, or a picture of you (or the two of you together if you took any while you were there) nicely mounted.

I am about to go on my 4th date with this girl, we have already slept together and we have both established that we like each other. I even had flowers delivered to her work. I was going to go to her house tonight and bring a picnic basket and fill it with a blanket, a bottle of wine and glasses, flowers, candles, and a funny movie and just have a nice relaxing evening together. I was just going to put the blanket on the floor and set up her room really romantically. Is this to fast for me to be setting up candles and bringing wine and flowers to her house? My friend is still in High School but she is kind of shy and I really don't think she would want flowers delivered to her at school. Expecially since we arn't dating and people would ask who are they from and what not.. If I don't have them delivered to her school i'll hand deliver them to her tonight after I get off work. About a month ago, my boyfriend [of a year and half] broke up with me. He was cheating on me. He's called me alot. He tried making plans about two weeks ago, and I was really sweet about it and said "oh..I'm really sorry, but I have plans. Maybe another time?" then a week ago he came over, so we were sitting in my kitchen just talking. Before he came he called me, so I ordered a bunch of flowers delivered from the flower shop on my corner with a little note on it to be delivered.

That came, and I was really casual about it. He was like "who sent you those?" and I just said "a friend". I know i shouldn't be messing with him like that, but I'm just about done having my fun. He hurt me alot..But the main question is, monday night me and him are going to the same party. It's casual, about 30 people at a restaraunt. I'm friends with this girl who i hoped something more would happen with but since she had a boyfriend, i kept it to myself. Anyhow as a group of friends were all buying presnts for each other mostly little stuff but this friend pointed out in a conversation once that her boyfriend would never buy her flowers (not the nicest guy in the world) so i planned on getting her some flowers delivered near christmas but was just wondering if its too much or not?

I figured you know avoid anything overly romantic (e.g. red roses) but just get her some nice flowers and put something on the card like 'every girl should get flowers now and again.'

I live in an efficiency and I think my roomate likes me!! Well he is like my landlord. But he is always giving me these signals. Answering my door %26amp; he has no shirt on. Going out of his way to say hello 2 me. Being overly nice, bringing my mail 2 me. My b-day was on Feb 14th. My sister had some flowers delivered 2 me. The delivery guy put the flowers on the porch. I was the only one home @ the time. I didn't bother them bcuz I wasn't sure who they belonged 2 %26amp; I didn't see the delivery guy when he came . So later on that day I come home from work and someone is knocking on my door. It is my other roomate who I never talk 2. He is the brother of my landlord but he has never come 2 my door all of this time and we don't talk @ all. He is @ my door with the flowers in his hand and says " I think a guy gave these flowers 2 you". I as like " Oh! They are so pretty! Maybe my father gave them 2 me!!" And yet he is standing there waiting for something. Wat is going on and wat 2 do ppl!!

This is tough since you live with him (or by him). If you go out and ask him if he likes you and he says no then it will be very awkward from then on. Maybe ask him if he would like to go get coffee or a drink some time and do not make the first move. If he likes you, you will find out by spending time with him.

If they seem to know what theyre talking about and can deliver, I say go for it. It may be slightly difficult to find out whether the food will be good or not, but if theyre an established company, chances are they know what they are doing any your present should be well received!

Reply:It is best to use a nursery that is in your own Gardening Zone, that way you know the plants have adapted to your area, or a zone north of you, making the plants even hardier.

It also makes a difference if your looking for seeds, perrenials, trees etc. most nurseries specialize, ask your local gardening friends who they prefer, also visit your local farmers market or some of the plant exchanges in your area.

As for paying for them cash or charge, if your doing it over the phone then yea it will have to be charge or debit card, cash will obviously have to be paid for in person at the flower store prior to delivery. Depends on what you want to send and for what occasion. I done this a few times and ranged between $25 to $80.

I am attending a funeral of a neighbor who passed away recently. The funeral is in a very small coastal town, and there are no local florists. It would be very expensive to have them sent. In the obituary it says "friends and family may bring flowers or, flowers can be sent to"...(home address of the brother). Do you think that means bring them to the brother's home, or bring them with you to the funeral? If I hand deliver them to the brother's home, should I do so the evening before the funeral? If i bring them to to funeral, should I show up early so that they can be placed near the casket?

Not sure why this is in law and ethics instead of etiquette. Legally anyone of the options you offered would be LEGAL. And I suspect from and etiquette standpoint any one would be ok too.
Reply:Usually this means to have the flowers delivered by the florist in which you are using to make the arrangement. Otherwise, I would either call the person it states to send them to and ask what should be done. If all else fails, bring them to the brothers house before the funeral...usually the flowers are set next to and around the casket at the wake and/or funeral so youd want them to be there before either of those you were getting them for.
Reply:When my grandmother passed away some people sent flowers to the funeral home and some people brought them with them then on the day of the funeral all of the flowers were put into the hearse the ones that were in vases the director gave to my parents to take home. I wouldn't take flowers over to there house the night before because they probably are going to have alot of things to do and it is a very emotional time when there is a death in the family.Also depending on the size of family might have a lot of family over.

Sending flowers to family of a special acquaintance who was a patient of mine. It's just from me...what's appropriate to send, $20, $30, $40 plant?

I don't want to be too over the top, because I knew her just professionally, but I know you often don't get much flowers for the money. If it's too small, it'll stand out like a sore thumb amongst the larger arrangements. I feel I should send something, but not sure.

Then I find out the area florists don't deliver on Sundays. Maybe just going to the visitation and contribution to her selected church to will be enough?

Every time I've used their service (which is really Telaflora) they mess up the order. I ordered flowers for my sister for two days before Christmas, and it took them 1 1/2 days to deliver them, even though I called in the morning to order. Then they were crummy looking. When I called to complain, they gave me the standard "We'll take your complaint and see what can be done" which I've always found to be is nothing, the girl told me that florists pay T.F. to be first in line for referrals. The florist they sent my order to was 14 miles from my sisters house, where as she has two florists who deal in T.F. in her town! Today was the last straw. I called in some flowers for my daughter's birthday and the florist called me to say they didn't have that arrangement, and then confided in me that the 60.00 I paid to T.F. is only paying for a 34.00 arrangement! But, on the T.F. web page, they showed I purchased one for 45.00. RIP OFF. I'm not using them again, and am telling Lane Brynt

Yesterday I ordered flowers from a local shop and was planning to pick them up today and hand delivering them to a girl that I have been hanging out with here and there for the last few months. She knows that I'm interested in her.

Anyway she was gone the whole week on a business trip and just got in last night. Before I could get to ask her to go to dinner with me tonight she fell asleep. I asked her in email (she is at work) if she wants to have dinner tonight and she said she has Acting Class tonight (not a college/univ class).

Well I'm kind of bummed. I'm not sure what to do with the flowers. I don't want to go there and see her, give her the flowers and not plan anything.

I'm having an outdoor ceremony at 5:00pm and reception following....any ideas of what time I should have the cake and flowers delivered?

Cake delivery should take place by 4pm while your caterer is there to help coordinate where placement should be. It should arrive earlier if the cake needs to be put together or finishing touched done on location.

Flowers should be delivered in the late morning/early afternoon. This way the staff has time to set flowers for the ceremony %26amp; get bouquets and the like to the bridal party. Then flowers for the reception can be put in a cool place until the catering staff is ready to set the tables. All flowers should be out no later than 4pm for the ceremony %26amp; 4:30 for the reception.

Reply:If the ceremony begins at 5, then guests will probably start getting there around 430 ... you will need the flowers for pictures which would probably be around 230 or so. Your location should have a place to keep the cake so it doesn't have to sit outside. If they cake gets there at 330 that would be perfect. The location will probably need an hour or so to set up so you need to make sure everything is there for them when they begin.

I would ask . . . not tell them. For example, "My wedding venue is available to us at 3:00 pm. The wedding starts at 5. What time will you be able to deliver the cake?"

Always be very nice and very polite to your vendors, LOL.

Reply:If it's still hot then I wouldn't have the cake delivered too early or the icing might melt. Can you see the reception area from where the cermony will be held? I'd have the cake delivered as close to the last minute as possible. Maybe 4:15 - 4:30. Talk to your cake decorator and see what she thinks. I used to decorate cakes but I don't really know about flowers. All I can recommend is to talk to your florist.

Make sure you can keep the cake and flowers refrigerated.

Unless you got a fondant cake - then you don't need to keep it cold.

Literally, 5 minutes ago (before I typed this question) a guy came to my house with a big bouquet of flowers. When I opened the door, he smiled, placed the flowers on the steps, and walked away without saying a word. I was really confused... The flowers had nothing written on them. (There was no card). I was wondering if the guy was delivering them to me from someone else. (Maybe that was his job.) But if he was delivering them, wouldn't he ask me to sign something....or some companies have you pay for the delivery, right? The guy left in such a hurry, that I barely got a glimpse of his face. He was probably young; (looked around my age, maybe older.) If the flowers were for me, then I don't know why. I don't even know who gave them to me! The flowers are absolutely beautiful, but I wish I could tell someone "thank you". My brother said it could have been a weak prank. Do you think this is true? I don't think it was a secret admirer because I haven't been seeing anybody...

I wanna have flowers delivered to her on Valentine's Day, but I know that schools can be strict when it comes to deliveries for security reasons. Would it be tasteful for me to send these flowers to her (have them dropped off at the office and then they call her to come get them) or should I just wait until she gets home to give them to her?

I spent $170 on a floral spray for a loved relative who's funeral I could not attend. I placed the order with the florist recommended by the funeral home and they seemed very accommodating.

After speaking with most of the relatives who did attend the funeral, nobody recalls seeing these flowers or my card. I called the florist and they later told me they had the receipt and the delivery driver specifically remembers delivering them.

I'm not a wealthy woman and the flowers being there meant a lot to me. I don't want to hurt the florist financially if they did what I paid them to do, but don't I deserve some sort of refund if they didn't?

This is all the information I have, so I have to make a decision based on what I've written. I'm considering filing an investigation request with my credit card company to have the charges reversed.

How does one give/take flowers to a graveside service?
If you are going to attend the funeral / graveside service yes bring flowers with you to lay on the grave or casket.( if that is your thing..)

If you will not be attending the ceremony and would like to show your respect and condolences I feel that you should send the flowers to the family. The florist can deliver them to the house .. give the name and address details. As for having them sent to the graveside Im not too sure about that.. who is going to lay them for you?

Alot of times there is a request .. " in lieu of flowers a donation" .. to a charity of the family's choice... this is always nice and what I prefer to do.

I do this because of what my grandmother said before she died. " please dont bring me flowers when I die, Im not going to be there to enjoy them."

I still every so often bring flowers to her grave but its usually wild flowers that I pick out of the garden. Those were her favorites.

Flowers are a nice sentiment, but I would send them to the family to enjoy instead of to the grave to just sit there.
Reply:If you are making a trip to the graveside to show respect, carrying flowers would be appropriate. If you are not actually going to the gravesite, you can request a delivery by the florist. (Have all the information...name, site #, etc. available for the florist).
Reply:Sometimes cemeteries have their own rules. If the funeral hasn't occured yet, the florist would probably deliver them to the funeral director, who would bring them along. If it's over %26amp; you want to bring them yourself, ask the cemetary what there rules are.

It’s a wonderful gift idea.

Here is how you can do it. Find a local box supplier; you need to get a vertical box which is just a bit longer then the length of you bouquet. I will include a vase (one with a thicker glass) to hold the flowers so that they don't move too much. Sprinkle some water and cover with floral paper. Get couple gel ice pack from your local medical store and freeze them well. Now place the vase with the flowers and the frozen ice packs in the box. Make sure you secure the ice packs and vase by a tape or something and use next day air with FedEx OR DHL.

Forget FTD and all the other on line flower people like Teleflora and others. They are generally NOT reliable! If you wish to send flowers, go to or call a local florist who can take your order and contact a florist in the town where the delivery will be made. This is the safest most reliable way.
Reply:I've ordered flowers from FTD after looking at the various pics of arrangements they have. The flowers that show up are often of poor quality for some reason. So I gave up on FTD and now just Google a florist in the town where I want them sent and order that way. I have even called the florist, told them to look at a pic of a bouquet on FTD's website, and they have made it perfectly!

So my advice, don't do FTD. Go to a local. You'll get a better deal. Just google florist and whatever town they are supposed to go.

This is a very masculine guy who is a world renowned classical musician his birthday is in 3 days and I don’t have time to send anything by post so I need to order something and have it delivered. You have the wrong impression of flowers...they are nice for all...but why not a really nice potted plant...it will remind him of you everyday, needs only minimal care, and will last a long time. These are the kinds of gifts I prefer...ones that keep on giving. I went to a local florist in a small town in California to send a mothers day floral arrangement to my mom, who lives in a small town in Ohio. Even though I ordered and paid in cash on Monday they scheduled delivery for the following Saturday, after promising delivery between 8 a.m. and noon at noon they informed me that it might take till six since its a holiday delivery. At around 4 they advised me they would be delivering until 8 pm. My mom is in her 70's and perfers being asleep by 7. I'm so frustrated at this pont my mom has no flowers and the shop in Ohio does not deliver on Motheres Day. Any suggestions??? Oh, by the way this cost about sevanty dollars to expirence. Ideas?????

If they guaranteed delivery, you may have some recourse for a refund...however...in the future , you may find it more benficial , not be mention cheaper to call a florist in Ohio yourself. Do a little research on the web and find one near mom and call them direct, most florists have toll free numbers, then you can find out what they have in stock and if and when they can deliver it:)

I only hung out with this girl twice through another friend and we got along really well. She seemed like she liked me. After that we fell out of touch. I met her again a party the other night and I was drunk. I forgot her name and she seemed to get upset about it. I remembered it later. Anyway, I realized I liked her that night. I would much rather have anything else but flowers.Flowers are nice every now and again,the cheap ones.There is no real thought that goes into flowers.I would rather go have fun. go to the spa,or receive a gift that required some thought.
Reply:While flowers are a nice gesture, I'd feel horrible knowing my husband spent that kind of money on something that would wilt in a few days. I'd much rather we spend time together doing something intimate and less expensive...or at least more memorable.

My neighbor's daughter had her flowers from Sam's Club and they looked amazing! She used white roses and blue hydrangea's. She saved a ton of money and they really did look amazing.

The only thing was they were not premade arrangements she and her mother had to make them.

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole, which she carried across her neck.

I'm not sure I want to send flowers because I don't even know how that would go over with my boyfriend. I want to send something to his work just to let him know I'm thinking of him. it depends on the man, but normally they just don't appreciate flowers as much as us girls do. the gesture, however, is almost always appreciated. if he's into video games you could buy him a cool new game like GTA4 and drop it off at his work with a bow and a note. this can work with pretty much whatever your guy happens to be into. It's alot cuter if it's something small, like the game or baked goods or something like that, i'd say save the shoes for a special occasion like his birthday or your anniversary :)

Contact trading standards in your area. They will sort this out for you.

I have used several online such as jersey flowers and never had a problem. However, the best way I have found is contact talking pages and ask for a florist in the area you want to send the flowers to.

You then make your own choice of florist and phone your choice. This I method I have found to be more personal and I derive far more pleasure doing it this way. You can actually tell the florist what you want and it can work out to far cheaper than having a set bouquet..

I hope you have this matter resolved to your satisfaction and that the baby is not a year old before it is.

What worries you when you spend money with a florist over the phone or on the internet and you are not going to see the flowers? What if there was a service where you saw exactly what had been delivered and you paid no relay fees. Would you use these florists, or would you still use the companies that charge huge fees because they have been around a long time?

Such a service would be nice, and yes I'd use it as long as its customer service was great.

I have a friend in the hospital who just had surgery and I wanted to send some flowers (he's a guy, but I don't know what else to send). I thought I'd order from the 1-800-flowers or somewhere like that online....what instructions do I give in order for them to be delivered to the hospital?? I've never done it before. Thanks!

I have worked 4 years as a florist so I will be happy to answer your question. First of all is your friend in a hospital locally? If so go to your nearest florist and pick out what you would like and have them deliver it. If it isn't local, you can still go to the local florist and they will call the florist closest to his hospital and have them sent. You can also see some arrangements such as an FTD bouquet or something that they have done and tell them you want something like that. They can tell the other florist what you want as florist try to keep a variety on hand to duplicate arrangements shown in books. Of course some flowers may not be available due to seasons like tulips. They will often do it on the spot , but sometimes not, but you will know exactly what it is going to cost for the arrangement, the delivery fee and the wire fee. You just pay the local florist and the florists work out payment amongst the two of them. They are the go between and want to make you happy too. You can order from 1-800 flowers if you wish. They will have photos of arrangements on line. You would give them info on where to deliver and pay by credit card.

The Internet is the only way in your case. Even ifyou live down here, it is expensive. However, I would not try to send it to the hospital since here in the states women only stay about 2 days and go home. Send it to her home...less stuff to carry home from the hospital. Another suggestion would be to send a plant which will continue to grow.

I'm just wondering if anyone out there has had any success with having orchid stems delivered to your house and could recommend someone.

I'm in the UK and want them for my wedding bouquet (for someone to then arrange them) but I am worried about the reliability of them because I don't want to be doing a last minute run to Tesco's for some flowers the day before my wedding!

I can say that they orchids showed up in great shape and they were very easy to work with.

I have also used http://www.flowerbud.com and http://www.pacificcallas.com. They don't have dendrobium orchids, but they have cymbidium orchids.

I also did all the arrangements by myself. I don't know if the place I used ships to the UK. They are also a non-profit that does mentally-handicapped job-training.

It is your wedding with those who mean the most to the pair of you. Sod spending loads of money! A "budget".....................make your own special day of it! and all the flowers came from my garden, friends and from fields! And I got a s**g out it from an impressed bridesmaid!

Reply:Since I don't know where you are getting married (i.e. in your home or outside in a garden, or at a small reception hall), how many guests you are having as well as how big your wedding party is, this is a hard one to answer.

The first thing to do is to decide what kind of bouquet you personally want to carry as the bride. Do you want something small and simple, with ribbons to accent the flowers and add some color? Imagine carrying uncut flowers with a ribbon tied around the center, for example. It's a natural look, and gives the impression that you cut the flowers yourself. Or, do you want a big, round bouquet with cut flowers that are placed in a holder? This has to be assembled. Do you want the bridesmaids to carry something similar? You have to consider the lapel flowers for the groom, the groomsmen, as well as your parents on both sides - corsages for the moms' (wrist or on the chest) and lapel flowers for the dads'.

The next thing to think about is how many guests you are going to have and how many tables you are providing for the reception itself. Do you want a centerpiece of flowers on each table, or perhaps a simple bud vase with a single rose in it? A large centerpiece of very colorful flowers gets costly. A centerpiece with one type of flower (carnations for example) is cheaper. A simple bud vase with one flower, or several cut flowers is cheaper.

Think about what you want and then shop around at the local florists in your area to find out what they can provide for you and your budget. You can figure out your budget for this based on the prices you will get from the florists and go from there.

As for doing it yourself, and with specific reference to the flowers, my advice is DON'T. You can do the wedding and the reception at home if you want, which is what my husband and I did when we got married 6 years ago, but we hired a florist to take care of our wedding flowers. We had centerpieces that we made ourselves (candles centered in a bowl with water and goldfish - it was a Hawaiian themed wedding), so flowers were not used in that case. We had to buy the bowls, the candles and the fish and we had family help us assemble them. But the florist took care of my bouquet, the girls' flowers, the lapel flowers for my husband and his groomsmen.

A florist will specially order the flowers you want just prior to your event, and will prepare them for you the day before. They will be refrigerated. Doing it yourself means that you will have to pick up the flowers, refrigerate them (though your refrigerator will not be set to the precise level of cooling that a florist's refrigerator is set for), cut them and place them on the tables, as well as buy the vases. You will have to prepare the bouquets, corsages and lapel pins and that means you have to buy all the supplies: flowers, ribbons, pins. Lots of work.

Honestly, you will be under enough stress that day - and you will be - so don't add to it by trying to do this yourself. You will make yourself crazy. Let someone else do the work for you. Your job is to look gorgeous, and be prepared for YOUR day.

I went to Flower Expo and ordered a bouquet for a funeral. I specified the colors I wanted and also the flowers even the ribbon to be placed on it. I asked for blue flowers and specified carnations white in color and the tips dyed blue with palms in the back ground. The owner showed me some flowers he had but I said no because they were not blue they were purple. He assured me he knew exactly what I would like and he would arrange them himself. When I paid for them I also paid delivery for this memorial gave the address to be delivered to got a reciept and left. Well to make my point I was so devestated when I got to the memorial the whole arrangement was with pink roses orange orchids and the flowers I told him were not blue. He refuses to give me a refund and says I should of took them back how many people do you know of that would carry away flowers meant for the dead and tell the family I HAD TO TAKE THEM BACK. So me and this girl have been seeing eachother exclusively for almost 4 months and we've been talking since end of last year. As to why we're not officially together, it's not because im afraid to commit it's more that im afraid to ask her because sometimes i get the feeling she isn't ready and I don't want to jump the gun and scare her away. But we're really close and show affection in public and stuff. Anyway, her birthday is coming up and she invited me to her party that her family and friends usually have for her and I'm certain I want to give her flowers but should I send them or bring them to her personally. I feel like I want to bring them to her personally but I don't want to give her family the idea that we're in a serious relationship because I don't know how she feels about the idea yet and that maybe it would be more subtle if I had them delivered that morning. Could this be her way of introducing me to her family on that serious relationship term?

What should i do about flowers that were mis-sent to my home?

i ordered flowers from ftd.com for my mother and paid extra money so that they would be delivered ON TIME to my mom who lives with me. Well, today, my mother got her flowers (a day late). They were left with a neighbor while we were out of the house. There was a SECOND vase of flowers that i did NOT order. At first i thought that was their compensation for being a day late, until i saw a card that had another persons name on it. when i looked up the person on white pages.com and then mapquested her (to see if she was nearby so i could take them to the right house) i found out she was a 65 year old woman..who lives ACROSS TOWN and in a less-than-safe area of town. What should i do? Who do i contact? i mean, ftd.com handles the orders but they're sent from local shops that aren't disclosed on the card. i feel simply awful for not taking them to her, but i'd have 3 kids with me and i don't want to risk taking them into a part of town thats known for being unsafe. what do i do?

Contact FTD, they will be able to rectify the situation. It is not up to you to deliver the flowers, not to mention if they were just left at your house it is nice enough that you are trying to help the flowers get to the person who they were bought for.

As for your late flowers I hope that you get some sort of compensation (monetary) for the flowers you purchased for your mom. I have had this happen to me and I ended up with the flowers being free and I also worked at a well known national florist company and they always rectified complaints, usually with some sort of credit and coupon for your next order.

It is not your business to deliver the flowers to the right person. But it is courteous to let the florist know about the mistake.

I am working my butt off and trying to make amends with my ex. I brought her some really nice flowers...$100 worth if that makes a difference. Anyway, I delivered them to her business. She was not there but her assistant was and took them (and said "very nice, you've done good"). So the next day my ex calls and says thanks and that she wishes I would have called ahead of time (in a stern tone). Why would she say this? She wasn't even there so she did not have to see me...it worked out well. Thoughts?

Yeah ok -- so get this -- both my bf and i buy gifts for each other from 1800-Flowers, advertised here on Yahoo. We both place our orders to be delivered yesterday in aticipation that it would be very busy today.

Not only did neither one of us get them yesterday do to some poor excuses, but it is 6:15 pm PST time in CAlifornnia and we both still do not have them and are needing to go to dinner soon which means that we probably will not get them today.

I wired flowers to my 89 year old mother, for mother's day, to be delivered yesterday (Sat), to CA. (I'm in Idaho.) She was home all day, in and out, checking for them. They never arrived. I called the florist this morning and they checked on it, called back, and said they were delivered at 7:55 last night. What can I do? $50.00 for flowers that never arrived. It's their word against ours. The lady I talked to said they have no guarantee, like if someone in the neighborhood stole them or something. Do I have any recourse?

I would say yes, if you have a few dollars on you. Since most gift baskets and flowers are usually a surprise, I've been caught several times without cash, when the flowers were delivered. It's a little embarrassing, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person this has happened to, so I'm also pretty sure the delivery person doesn't expect a tip from every basket or bouquet they deliver.

I am really giving some thought to having silk flowers for my wedding for a number of reasons...it's an outdoor summer wedding so real flowers will lilt AND attract bees PLUS...I am allergic to fresh flowers. I'm just worried about them looking tacky...

I've come across a few wesbites where the silk flowers are really pretty, but I'm worried that when they're delivered, they're going to look cheap.

Personally, I can recommend fake flowers. You can keep them forever, you don't have to worry about them being fresh, picking them up on the wedding day or being affected by heat/bees or you suffering allergies.

I bought my wedding flowers off Ebay. They are white roses, baby pink frangipanis in a tear drop bouquet, with five matching bridemaids bouqets.

When they were delivered they were so pretty! They look absolutely real, and were so professionally done. I would recommend not to buy really 'cheap' packages, I spent a 'medium' amount but the quality is amazing.

Check the seller's feedback before buying, but my flowers were just amazing.

I bought some gorgeous orchids at Michael's. Don't know where you're located but I would go to the craft store first. There's a big range of prices %26amp; the more you spend, the better they look. I've seen some that were really cheap %26amp; had strings hanging off, and then online they were selling the exact same flowers for the same price, and they looked perfect in the pictures, which they definitely are not.
Reply:I agree with the Hobby Lobby recommendations. Beautiful. The flowers are expensive, but I hear the stores often have huge sales.

Don't discount Wal-mart. The Teters flowers that Wal-mart carries are great; they are high-quality silks, just about as good as those found at Hobby Lobby but a bit cheaper on a day-to-day basis. You just have to be sure to be in the right section; Wal-mart also carries silks of much lower quality.

Ask some of the florists around you if they do false flowers and you will be surprised when you find them. I have fake flowers in my house that i have had people ask what variety of rose they were because they had no smell at all. Nobody notices there is no water in the vase!

If you are in australia i can reccomend a fabulous silk flower lady who is not very expensive but her work is amazing. I can also point you to a few websites but once again they are in Australia.

I'd ask around at a few florists near you to see what's available in your area otherwise send me and email and i'll give you the contact for my flower lady. I don't know if she ships overseas (never had to ask) but she might be able to help you out.

I have used this site many times and what they do is cooperate with a local florist and charge approximately $10 to deliver. You should probably just go to a local florist.

Reply:As a florist, I can tell you that many of us are very wary of sending anonymous gift. Most of states now have what is called "anti-stalking law" including our state, NY.

WHY DO PEOPLE GIVE FLOWERS WHEN THEY REPRESENT NOTHING BUT DECAY?

Flowers are a nice gesture but flowers are VERY EXPENSIVE when ordered from a florist %26amp; delivered… They don’t last long… I have more vases then I know what to do with%26amp; end up giving them to GoodWill to join their collection of cheap “free” vases that come with flowers…

I find it depressing how the flowers are meant as a good thing but then they, like everything else, begins to decay, %26amp; end up rotten %26amp; in the trash… Last year on my b-day I got THREE DELIVERIES OF FLOWERS! I had no where to put them all %26amp; had to give them away to neighbors!

This year I only got 1 (thank god) but it doesn’t even have anything I can dry to use in an arrangement. They are all just ‘throw-out’ flowers. VERY EXPENSIVE ‘throw-out’ flowers

I would MUCH rather have some kind of plant that I can care for %26amp; keep for more then a week!

I am definitely laughing right now! Not at you, but with you. Every year I get clothes from people, and every year nothing fits. I tell them please don't buy me clothes, nothing EVER fits. But what do you think happens-you got it-CLOTHES! The only difference between me and you is my cat doesn't eat my clothes.

Reply:Are you telling them collectively, as a group, or individually? As a group, they may not be listening. Tell each one, and tell them the options. Cash or gift certificates. If they cooperate, send them a thank you note. If they send flowers anyway, give them away, and let them know you did. Tell them you'd rather have NOTHING than flowers, thank you very much.
Reply:Why? Because they want someone to send THEM flowers! They don't listen to you either. Make a "wish list/gift list" and email to everyone. Have things on it that are in many different price ranges. Tell everyone that you just found out your are allergic to flowers and can't have any in your house so you wanted to help everyone with gift ideas! Okay, I know that is a big fib, but you need to take drastic steps! Make sure you have lots of ideas on the list and put in there that, when in doubt, you LOVE gift cards to your fav stores. Hopefully, you will get some different gifts next year!

There is someone in Medellin Colombia I'd like to send flowers too. All my google searches are showing me Colombian flowers I can buy here in the US. Anyone know of local places in Medellin I can buy flowers using my credit card and have them delivered to someone there? I don't think the currency makes a difference with the card.

I would try daflores. They are on time, the flowers are nice. (Not cheap, but nice) The boxed ones are spectacular. The 100 bud boquet wasnt that impressive.

Reply:If the ditance is a problem then you can buy them locally in a flower shop near where you are delivering them (via website or phone) and this will be cheaper as you don't need to spend a lot of monry on sending them, even if you need to pay extra for the currency change.
